Gel with bacteriophages for ENT hygiene "Otophage" is used for normalization of microbiota in ENT organs. Otophage helps prevent bacterial pyoinflammatory diseases of ear, nose, and throat.
Otophage includes a complex of 72 types of bacteriophages from the collection of research and production center “Micromir”, which inhibit the growth of relevant strains of the following
bacteria:
• Acinetobacter baumannii
• Bacteroides fragilis
• Corynebacterium striatum
• Cutibacterium acnes (old nomenclature: Propionibacterium acnes)
• Enterobacter cloacae
• Enterobacter kobei
• Enterococcus faecalis
• Enterococcus faecium (old nomenclature: Streptococcus group D)
• Klebsiella pneumoniae
• Klebsiella pneumoniae subsp. ozaenae
• Proteus mirabilis
• Proteus vulgaris
• Pseudomonas aeruginosa
• Staphylococcus aureus
• Staphylococcus capitis
• Staphylococcus caprae
• Staphylococcus epidermidis
• Staphylococcus haemolyticus
• Staphylococcus spuccinus
• Staphylococcus warneri
• Stenotrophomonas maltophilia
• Streptococcus pyogenes
• Wolinella spp.
Practical application of bacteriophages
Bacteriophages are viruses that selectively affect bacteria: each type of bacteriophage is active only against a certain type of bacteria and is neutral against other types. Bacteriophages kill pathogenic bacteria without disturbing the human normal microbiota. This allows their use in all
categories of patients as an effective and safe antibacterial agent for prevention and therapy, including in combination with antibiotics. Prophylactic use of bacteriophages is especially relevant when clinical signs of bacterial infection are absent, and the use of antibiotics is undesirable because of their side effects. As a result of using bacteriophages, the total number of pathogenic bacteria decreases, and the normal balance of the microbiota is maintained.
Dosage form
Gel in a 50 ml bottle with dispenser and protective cap.
Composition
• active substances: sterile suspension of phage particles in physiological solution.
• excipients: purified water, carbopol, calendula extract, kathon.
Recommendations for use
• Helps to prevent complications caused by bacterial and mixed infections in case of colds and other respiratory diseases of ear (outer and middle otitis), nose (sinusitis, rhinitis), throat (pharyngitis, adenoiditis, angina, laryngitis, chronic tonsillitis).
• Helps to prevent inflammatory diseases caused by bacteria in susceptible patients with diabetes mellitus, cancer (during radiotherapy and chemotherapy), or in immunosuppressed patients.
• Promotes sanitation of carriers of Staphylococcus aureus among health care workers.
• Helps to prevent complications caused by bacteria associated with surgical interventions and other therapeutic manipulations in ENT organs.

• By prescription in other clinical situations requiring high antibacterial protection and no side effects.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to Otophage components.
How to use
• Otophage is applied to the affected area directly from the dispenser or with a spatula.
IMPORTANT: Do not apply Otophage to closed inflammatory foci that have no or limited outflow of exudate from the lesion (e.g. closed wounds, etc.). Introducing Otophage into such lesions can lead to increased swelling due to massive decomposition of bacterial cells.
Dosage and application schedules
• Helps to prevent complications caused by bacterial and mixed infections in case of colds and other respiratory diseases of ear (outer and middle otitis), nose (sinusitis, rhinitis), throat (pharyngitis, adenoiditis, angina, laryngitis, chronic tonsillitis):
1-2nd day: 1 ml of Otophage (one press) is applied 3-4 times a day; 3-5th day: 1 ml of Otophage 2-3 times a day; 5-14th day: 1 ml of Otophage 2 times a day.
• Helps to prevent inflammatory diseases caused by bacteria in susceptible patients with diabetes mellitus, cancer (during radiotherapy and chemotherapy), or in immunosuppressed patients:
1 ml of Otophage (one press) is applied 2-3 times a day. The duration of the course is not limited.
• Promotes sanitation of carriers of Staphylococcus aureus among health care workers.: 1 ml of Otophage (one press) is applied 2 times a day. The course duration is 7 days.
• Helps to prevent complications caused by bacteria associated with surgical interventions and other therapeutic manipulations in ENT organs:
The dose of Otophage is determined by the doctor based on the clinical situation.
After hygienic procedures for 7 days before surgery - 2-3 times a day. After surgery - 2-3 times a day for 7 days. Duration of application is determined by the doctor.
• By prescription in other clinical situations requiring high antibacterial protection and no side effects:
The specialist determines the regimen, frequency and amount of use of Otophage based on the clinical situation.
IMPORTANT: In the initial stage, if there is an inflammatory focus, more frequent use of Otophage at intervals of 1-2 hours is recommended.
Interaction
• Antibacterial drugs of systemic action:
• Otophage can be used simultaneously with systemic antibacterial therapy.
• Antiseptic, antibacterial and other topical medications:
• It is acceptable to use Otophage together with 0.05% and 0.2% solutions of chlorhexidine bigluconate, 2.0% hydroxymethylquinoxalindioxide, gels with metronidazole, ointments with chloramphenicol and methyluracil.
• Consecutive application of Otophage at intervals of at least 20 minutes after the use of the following means: based on octogenidine and phenoxyethanol, based on salts of polyacrylic acid, hydrogen peroxide solutions, based on povidone iodine is allowed.
