Laminaria, or kelp, is a genus of seaweed belonging to the brown algae class. The therapeutic effect of kelp is due to the presence of organic iodine compounds, which improve protein assimilation and the absorption of phosphorus, calcium, and iron, and activate a number of enzymes. Iodine reduces blood viscosity, vascular tone, and blood pressure.

Kelp is rich in alginic acid and its salts, which remove toxins from the body and positively influence the growth of microbiota, which has a beneficial effect on the intestines. In addition, the seaweed has a mild laxative effect.

Fucoxanthin, found in kelp, reduces the risk of diabetes. The amino acid tyrosine influences the production of thyroid hormones.

Kelp's antioxidants accelerate cell regeneration, slow aging, and activate the body's immune system. Fucoxanthin, carotenoids, and flavonoids have been found in the seaweed. These substances protect internal organ cells from free radical damage (fucoxanthin's antioxidant properties are 14 times greater than those of vitamin E).

Laminaria has the following properties:

Antiseptic effect – it affects gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, yeast fungi, and some protozoa;

Regenerative effect – erosions heal within 3-4 days;

Immunocorrective effect – due to a sharp increase in phagocytosis and the adsorbent capacity of the epithelium;

Antitumor effect – determined by the effect of kelp alginate on contact inhibition processes in intercellular interactions, as well as stimulation of cytostatic reactions (primarily natural killer cells) of the immune system;

Stimulation of hematopoiesis – due to the high content of easily digestible iron.
